Account Deletion Page Generator

The third URL the stores ask every app with accounts for, after the privacy policy and the support page. Published at its own address, with what gets deleted, what is kept and how long it takes.

What the stores ask for

Google Play’s User Data policy requires apps that allow account creation to offer deletion both inside the app and through a web resource, with that URL entered in a dedicated Play Console field. It also states that deleting an account has to delete the associated data, and that freezing an account is not deletion.

Apple’s guideline 5.1.1(v) requires that deletion can be started from within the app. A link out to a page is accepted when it goes directly to the deletion route rather than to a general support page.

So the same page satisfies both, as long as it says the right things. A page that exists but only offers a contact form is the version that gets rejected.

What goes on it

  • How someone starts the request, in-app and by email.
  • An address that can receive it. A page listing example.com is refused here.
  • What data is deleted, item by item.
  • Anything kept, with the reason, which both stores expect to be disclosed.
  • How long it takes.

It starts from a sensible draft rather than an empty form, since most developers have never had to write this down. The draft is a starting point, not a shortcut: the tool still refuses to publish until it describes your app rather than a generic one.

Three URLs, one place

Together with the privacy policy and the support page, this is the full set of hosted addresses the stores ask for. The privacy policy is free.

Questions

Why does my app need an account deletion page?

If your app lets people create an account, Google Play's User Data policy requires a way to request deletion through a web page, and Play Console has a dedicated field for that URL. Apple's guideline 5.1.1(v) requires deletion to be startable inside the app and accepts a direct link to a page like this one. Most developers find out when a submission is rejected.

Is closing the account enough?

No. Google's policy is explicit that deleting an account has to delete the data associated with it, and that freezing or deactivating an account does not count. That is why this tool will not publish a page that does not say what data is actually removed.

Can I keep anything after deletion?

Yes, if you say so and give the reason. Purchase records usually have to be kept for tax law, and anonymised analytics that can no longer identify anyone are generally fine. Both stores expect that to be disclosed rather than hidden, so the page has a section for it.

What has to be on the page?

How someone asks for deletion, an address that can actually receive the request, what data gets deleted, anything kept and why, and how long it takes. The tool refuses to publish without the first four, because a page that only says “contact us” is what gets rejected.

Does the URL change when I update it?

No. Updating the page keeps the same address, so a URL already in Play Console stays correct. Taking the page down keeps the address too, and publishing again brings it back rather than minting a new one you would have to resubmit.
