Edge cropping
Google displays the feature graphic across several surfaces, and the crop is not always the full 1024 x 500 frame. Text or a logo placed near the border can be trimmed. Treat the outer edges as a bleed zone and keep anything you need people to read well inside the center. If your design has a wordmark, center it and leave padding on all four sides.
No App Store equivalent
The feature graphic is a Google Play requirement only. App Store Connect does not ask for a banner of this kind, so if you publish solely on iOS you can skip it. If you ship on both stores, you still need the feature graphic for the Play listing.

What file format does the feature graphic need to be?
