App Store and Google Play screenshot size checker

Got an “incorrect size” error and no idea which size it wanted? Drop the file in. You will get the size it actually is, whether that fills Apple's required slot, whether Google Play will accept the same file, and if not, how many pixels off it is and which way to go.

No device frame, no caption, no background. Just the right number of pixels.

Free, no signup, no watermark. Nothing is uploaded. Every accepted size in one zip is on the Starter plan.

Frequently asked questions

Why does App Store Connect reject my screenshot as an incorrect size?

Because it validates against an exact allow-list, not a range. A screenshot one pixel away from an accepted size is refused, and the error does not say which size it was close to, so the usual next step is to export at another wrong size and try again. Drop the file in above and it will tell you the nearest accepted size and how many pixels away you are, in which direction.

Which iPhone screenshot size is actually required?

Apple's reference says you must provide at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), which is 1179x2556 or 1206x2622. Every other iPhone class is optional, and the App Store scales your screenshots down for smaller devices. This is the part that catches people out: a screenshot can be a perfectly valid accepted size and still leave the required slot empty.

Can I use the same screenshots on Google Play?

Usually not, and this is the trap. Google Play is far more permissive than Apple - it publishes a range rather than an allow-list, accepting any size from 320px to 3840px a side - but it caps the longer side at twice the shorter one. Every current iPhone screenshot is 19.5:9, which is 2.167:1, so the entire modern iPhone size list, including the one Apple requires, is too tall for Play. A set that passes App Store Connect cannot be uploaded to Play at all, and neither store's documentation mentions the other. Drop your files in above and each one is checked against both.

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

Any size inside the range, which is why every page that prints 1080x1920 as the Play spec is quoting a popular choice rather than a requirement. 1080x1920 is a good default because it is 9:16, and Play wants at least four screenshots at 1080px or better in 9:16 or 16:9 to consider your listing for large-format promotional placements. Missing that bar does not block your release; it just quietly costs you the bigger slots.

Does my screenshot get uploaded anywhere?

No. The dimensions are read and the resize is done on a canvas in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server to be checked or resized, which matters more here than for most tools, because a pre-release screenshot is the one asset you have a good reason not to hand to someone else's server.

What is an alpha channel and why does it get my upload rejected?

It is a transparency layer. Apple rejects any screenshot that has one, and it is invisible: a file with a transparent corner looks identical in Preview, in Finder and in your editor. Screenshots exported from design tools often carry one without anyone realising. This page flags it, and any file you export from here is written opaque.

Can I turn an iPhone screenshot into an iPad one?

Not well, and this tool will not pretend otherwise. An iPhone screenshot is roughly 19.5:9 and an iPad slot is 4:3, so getting from one to the other means cropping away about 38 percent of the picture or padding it with bars across 38 percent of the frame. Both pass Apple's validator and both look broken on your listing. If your app supports iPad, take the screenshot on an iPad.

Do I need all of these sizes?

No, and supplying them all is the most common waste of an evening in this whole process. One screenshot in the required slot is enough to submit. The rest exist for cases where the automatic scaling crops something that matters, or where you want artwork tuned to a particular device.
