What size should an iOS app icon be?
1024 x 1024 pixels. That is the only icon you are required to produce: you supply it in Xcode as the single App Store icon and iOS generates every smaller size from it. The sizes iOS renders underneath run from 180 x 180 for the iPhone home screen down to 20 x 20 for a notification badge, but you no longer hand-export those.
What is the iPhone app icon size on the home screen?
180 x 180 pixels on a 3x Retina iPhone, which is the 60pt icon at @3x. On a 2x device it is 120 x 120. Both are generated from your 1024 x 1024 source, so this is a number to design against rather than a file to produce.
What is the app icon corner radius on iOS?
You do not set one. Supply a full square with square corners and no transparency, and iOS applies its own mask. The mask is a continuous curve, often called a squircle, not a plain rounded rectangle, which is why matching it by hand with a simple corner radius never looks quite right. The commonly cited figure of roughly 22.4% of the icon width, about 229px on a 1024px icon, is a community approximation of that curve rather than a radius Apple publishes. Do not pre-round, and do not bake in a shadow.
What are the Light, Dark, and Tinted icon variants?
Since iOS 18 you can supply up to three appearances. Light is the default. Dark is supplied with a transparent background so iOS composites it over the system dark backdrop. Tinted is supplied as grayscale so iOS can apply the user-selected tint. You provide the artwork and iOS handles the compositing. For anything beyond a single Light icon, Apple now directs you to Icon Composer.
Is the App Store icon the same as the app icon?
It is the same artwork at the largest size. The 1024 x 1024 icon is what appears on your App Store product page, and it is also the source Xcode scales every on-device size from. It must be a flat PNG with no alpha channel and no rounded corners.
